Silvermine Bay School follows a modified English National Curriculum, ensuring that our curriculum is relevant for children growing up in Hong Kong, while also emphasizing the multicultural diversity of the world we live in.
Similarly, our Reception Class follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), combined with supplementary resources to bring relevancy to our students of the place in which they live, simultaneously building a foundation to prepare them for the rigours of our full primary curriculum.
The curriculum includes:
- English (Big Writing, Synthetic Phonics)
- Mathematics (Evidence-based Maths)
- Mandarin
- Science
- History and Geography
- Nature Studies
- Computing (included Coding and Robotics)
- Art & Design, Design & Technology
- Music
- Physical Education (PE)
- Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)
We focus on teaching students how to make connections between subjects, enhancing their understanding of how their studies apply to the real world. An example of this is the relationship between Maths, Computing, Coding and Robotics. We emphasize the growth mindset and equip students with ‘learning how to learn’ skills.
Mornings focus on the core academic subjects of Maths, English and Mandarin. In the afternoons, all subjects are activity-based. Children study Music, Art & Design and PSHE three days per week, while Sports and PE are taught two days per week. Students have lots of fun and have multiple opportunities to express their ideas and show their creativity.
Our whole school approach provides the opportunity for students to mingle and spend time together during morning and lunch breaks. We are a small school with a family feeling where all teachers and students know and support each other.
